The Gospel of Star Trek

by Jonah Goldberg

From a reader:

So it appears that a giant Narnia-fest is fine, but Star Trek is still banned. How can we convince K-Lo that Star Trek is a Christian allegory?

In Generations, doesn’t Kirk agree to leave what is essentially heaven, only to die saving a whole world from destruction by the evil Malcolm McDowell, who had been cast out of that same heaven?

Actually, I can think of a bunch scenes from Trek that would qualify. Including, of course, the episode on the Roman planet where the crew thinks the rebel inhabitants are “sun” worshippers when it turns out they’re “son” worshippers.

I should also note that the guy who played Caesar in that episode is in Scrooge, as is the guy who started the “tell him Jim!” chant (you know the episode. Yeoman Rand: “Back on the ship I use to try to get you to look at my legs! … look at my legs!”) Both guys play homeless men in Scrooged.
