Travel Ban??

by Steven F. Hayward

Re Rich Lowry’s comment below that he thinks Shadegg is mistaken to oppose the privately-funded travel ban–as appealing as this sounds on the surface, the likely result, as Andrew Ferguson argues in his column this week, is that members of Congress will become even more insulated. More likely, I think, there will be a huge increase in taxpayer-financed junkets, sometimes involving the private groups who will “pay their own way” to go along (wink, wink).

Now, if they decided to ban travel on private planes unless members pay the FULL cost of the flight (and not just what the commercial fare would be, as is the rule now), then you’d really be getting these guys where it hurts.
