It’d be easy to flay the president for being all over the place on health care. (And given the Medicare Rx program, he’d deserve it.) But his cognitive dissonance is a symptom of the free-market community’s disunity over the direction that health policy should take. Some support tax credits; others don’t. Some want to allow HSAs with any type of coverage; others want to restrict HSAs to catastrophic coverage. Some want to mandate (or spend tax dollars to create) electronic medical records; others demur. Some want to federalize health insurance regulation; others can’t believe their ears. I could go on . . . We need to get the conservative-libertarian coalition singing from the same page. We need to hash this out.
