Kudos For The Justice Department

Yesterday Southern Illinois University agreed to end the racial and gender exclusivity (no white males, among others, need apply) of three graduate programs, in the face of a threatened Justice Department lawsuit. Such blatantly discriminatory programs have been dying out, as the overwhelming consensus of university general counsel–as well as the Education Department and, now, the Justice Department–have concluded that they are legally untenable. Of course, they’re divisive, unfair, and make no educational policy sense either. BTW, the programs are frequently challenged, and in this case were brought to the Justice Department’s attention, by the Center for Equal Opportunity, to whom all Cornerites should send all their money.
