“Sadly,” Andrew, because while I accept that free market capitalism is the best system for a country as a whole, I don’t have to personally embrace every single result of it. Free market economics has led the music industry to aggressively pursue telegenic teenage dancing girls over true musicians, and I think that’s sad. The free market made the designated hitter, which all right-thinking people agree is an abomination. I happen to love the movies, and I think they are a vital part of our national consciousness. I would like to think that 2005 was a bit of an aberration, and that not every year from here on out will be as wildly anti-mainstream as Brokeback/Syriana/Transamerica, but if I am wrong, that will be a sad thing.
