The Corner

The one and only.

A Non-Election Item

Text

How about a regular feature on The Corner called Whatever Happened To _____? Here’s my first candidate: Alberto Fernandez, director of Public Diplomacy (God help us) in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs in the State Department. A couple of weeks ago, he told Al Jazeera’s audience that American policy in Iraq was marked by “arrogance” and “stupidity.” For this we need the State Department? Why not just hire an Al-Jazeera reporter directly? But what I want to know is whether he has been disciplined in any way. Where is the clamor from the American press? Who is being held accountable?
