Michael – Isn’t there another argument? Labor can have gone too far here, but not far enough elsewhere. For example, one could say, I support “feminism” — female literacy etc — in plenty of countries where women are second class citizens. That doesn’t mean I have to support feminism here. I think it’s reasonable to say that labor unions have made some useful gains in this country but that they’ve reached diminishing returns, but that doesn’t mean they may not be useful and important in other countries where workers and civil society have a ways to go.
