Free the Border Patrol 2

Debra Saunders’ column today is on the two Border Patrol agents who started their prison sentences yesterday for shooting an illegal-alien drug smuggler in the butt. (Sara Carter of a small paper in southern California has been all over this story for months.) A former federal prosecutor I know says he’d long thought there was more to the case than was being reported, because what was reported was so obviously insufficient to warrant prosecution. But it turns out there really isn’t any there there. Saunders ends her column with a question the White House should have asked itself when they nixed the idea of a pardon for these two good cops now thrown to the very wolves they’d put away: “If anything happens to these men while they are behind bars, then what will America think of George W. Bush?”
