A School Choice Revival?

George Will hails the resurgence of school choice activism. It’s a cause that deserves to be touted at every opportunity this year, as the Congress prepares to reauthorize the No Child Left Behind Act. With a Democratic Congress, the chances of enhancing the meager school choice provisions in NCLB this time around are depressingly slim, but we need at least to be sure they are not weakened, and conservatives should use the opportunity created by the debate, and by the statistics we now get through NCLB, to build a targeted case for getting poor kids out of failing schools. School choice should be on the lips of every prospective Republican candidate for 2008.
