Re: Ex-Marines



The accepted term is “former Marine.” I know, I know, former Marine and ex-Marine: a distinction without a difference. But the idea is that any Marine who serves honorably never gives up the appellation “Marine” and that “ex-” as opposed to “former” makes it seems that one has given it up. When Jim Jones was commandant, he wanted to drop any distinction between active, reserve, retired, and those who were discharged honorably. I’m not sure that ever caught on but Iraq seems certainly to have erased the distinction between active and reserve.
