The Corner

The one and only.

Remember last week, when the Democrats were publicly squabbling about the Iraq bill? To get just a bare majority in the Democratic-run House on the very issue the Democrats say won them the election Speaker Pelosi was forced to pile mountains of pork into the bill to buy essential votes; there was deep dissension within the leadership and on both ends of the caucus; and in the end the bill just barely passed (getting exactly 218 votes, with the help of the two Republican votes it received). Well, to Robin Toner of the New York Times, this apparently all looked like an amazing display of unity and skill.
