Tribute to the Yankees

by Michael Potemra

Like most Americans, I was cheering for the Tribe tonight. (I’m from northeast Ohio originally, and my Mets–notoriously, culpably–are not in the postseason.) But you have to give it to the Yankees. What an amazingly talented bunch–down by three runs, bottom of the ninth, and the suspense was heart-pounding: Nobody, but nobody, was counting them out. The Yankees are in the business of making miracles—the suspense only ends when the last out is official. (PS. If Torre gets fired, it would be an outrage–is Steinbrenner really so petulant as to get rid of one of the game’s greatest figures just out of spite? I know, I know. Rhetorical question.)

The Corner

The one and only.
