Well, absolutely, Kathryn, but this gives another excuse for the alarmists to avoid real debate. That’s almost certainly why they launched this hoax, of course. Ad hominem arguments are their stock in trade. As for silliness, William Nordhaus of Yale calculated that 3 degrees of warming would cost the world $22 trillion this century, but Al Gore’s policies would cost the world $34 trillion. Yet Gore’s proposals are touted as saving the world. Silliness took over this debate years ago.
Meanwhile, the alarmists are alarmed at the prospect of Steve McIntyre’s eminently reasonable and scientifically immaculate website Climate Audit winning the “Best Science Blog” cetegory in the 2007 Weblog Awards. DeSmogBlog, which posted news of the hoax with glee, says the following:
Its the last day of voting for the 2007 Weblog Awards and it looks like the leader in the “Best Science Blog” category at this point is “Climate Audit,” a bastion for those who actually still believe that global warming is natural and humans have nothing to do with it.
In other words, Climate Audit is a climate change denial website.
This is tosh. Steve has said repeatedly that he is open-minded about whether there’s a man-made global warming problem or not, but that Wrong Method Correct Answer still = Bad Science. If you want to avoid silliness, go and vote for Steve’s site.
