It’s Not a “Complete” Abandonment


of free trade because I don’t think most of the Democrats would impose tariffs, quotas, and the like across the board; they’ll just oppose further trade liberalization and impose some trade barriers opportunistically, against a backdrop of generally free trade. I think this is probably what we have to look forward to on trade for the next few years: not so much backsliding on trade as a lack of progress on liberalization. But stalling could end up being the first step toward backsliding.
