Tales from the Homefront

by Jonah Goldberg

This morning, while driving my daughter to school, she explained to  me that one of her classmates has trouble talking. I’ve met this student before and I never noticed anything of the sort. If anything, the boy had a robust voice for a four year old. But Lucy was adamant.  I interrogated her as best I could until we arrived  at school. About one minute away from drop-off she pressed her point.

Her: “Daddy, he can’t talk right. When he needs to say ‘Help’ he can’t say it. He has to say ‘soccer ball.’”

Me: “You mean, if he was having trouble in the swimming pool he would yell ‘Soccer ball!’?”

Her: “Yes Daddy.”

I shall investigate further.
