A Candidate Only A Mother Could Love

In this new television ad, the Clinton campaign apparently seeks to humanize the senator by assuring voters that her mother thinks she’s great. The most interesting thing about the ad, though, is the text that flashes across the screen about 10 seconds in. It says “Hillary’s mom lives with her.” I can just imagine the focus group of older women (a crucial constituency in the Iowa caucuses, especially on the Democratic side) that gave the thumbs up to that one. But somehow, the way the ad is put together is just a little creepy.

This Obama web ad seems like a more powerful appeal to a similar demographic (though I don’t think it’s a demographic that surfs the web much).
