From my probationary Homlessness Activist Guy (as opposed to my Homeless Guy):
From your aspiring Homelessness Activist Guy –
That’s from a Florida study, and appears to be valid within the study group, but i couldn’t find details about how the study was selected. I can tell you in central Ohio (we have tons of data, www.lcchousing.org), the number is 1 in 20, inclusive of all vets, including general and less-than-hon discharges.
But i’ve noticed how many people take the 1 in 4 homeless are veterans figure and repeat it as 1 in 4 vets is homeless. Around our shop, i correct folks who say that, but there’s always a moment of staring at me, as if to say, “what do you mean?” Some of it is political assumptions driving the reframing, but i’ve heard others (tho’ not Fox reporters) who just can’t keep the two ratios separate in their heads.
And i’m the token conservative around this homelessness program, but they’re very kind about insisting they need at least one for translation purposes. Plus, i helped found the thing fifteen years ago, so they’re kind of stuck with me.
Looking forward to reading your book (and when are you coming to Denison University, Granville OH, home of Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner?). First gift card purchase in the new year is “LibFasc.”
