The Corner

The one and only.

Thompson, Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, and McCain

Text

My Hudson colleague John Fonte, commenting on my NRO piece yesterday on Iowa, suggests a slightly different ranking order of candidates and gives the reasons why: ”My ranking order would be: Thompson, Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, and McCain last. McCain is last because he is worse on the national question both immigration and sovereignty. McCain is the only Republican candidate who had said he would like to see the US join the ICC. True, he said protections for U.S. soldiers/officials had to be put in place first. But the other Republicans oppose it period.  Then there is bi-lingualism, Hawaiian sovereignty, Indian rights, affirmative action and all the rest. The unum and equality of citizenship are apparently always last with McCain. Unfortunately, it appears that even Huckabee is much better on sovereignty (ICC, Law of the Sea, etc) and, of course, McCain is just stubborn and unmovable on immigration. We don’t need another Bush on this.” This hits several nails squarely on the head.
