I agree with K-Lo that there is a public perception of Romney as a flip-flopper (and being from Massachusetts can’t help in this regard).  I would disagree that this reputation is completely unwarranted, however.  While he may not have revised his positions any more than some, such as Giuliani, I think it is fair to say that he has changed his views more than most (and certainly more than my guy, Fred).  That said, I think Romney deserves credit for being more candid about many of his changes in position than most.  So tonight, for instance, McCain tried to make himself seem more consistent (and less permissive) on immigration than he has been. And Huckabee — who has changed his views on abortion, federalism, the surge, and other issues — gets almost a free pass on this issue.
