Huck & Non-Evangelicals

by Jonathan H. Adler

Huckabee tried very hard to win over non-evangelical voters in South Carolina. Yet as John Fund reports, he largely failed.  Given Huck’s regular appeals to identity politics, this should not surprise.  What does surprise me, however, is that more evangelicals fail to see through Huck’s increasingly transparent and disingenuous appeals.  While Huck may initially come across as an appealing for his authenticity, I’ve come to the conclusion that he is the least authentic, and least honest, candidate in the race.  Were more evangelicals aware of this, I would hope his share of that vote would shrink as well.
