On Jindal

Text

In response to my post yesterday about Bobby Jindal, Ross Douthat makes, as usual, a wise and level-headed set of arguments. I don’t really disagree, but I was arguing yesterday that viewed from McCain’s perspective, Jindal would make a good pick. Ross’s original post was just about what was best from Jindal’s perspective, as he acknowledges. The more crucial questions, of course, are what is best, first, for the country and, second, for conservatives. On those grounds, as I suggested, I’m ambivalent about Jindal — though he may well be better than the alternatives.

Finding myself ambivalent about him but thinking he’s better than the alternatives may well be why I think of him in the same breath as John McCain to begin with…but of course that’s always the frustrating fate of the voter.
