Ramesh, the contention that Republicans use Connerly’s initiatives for political profit is at odds with the facts. Ward commonly runs into stiff resistance from state Republican politicos who are petrified that racial preference initiatives will cause Democratic money to flood into the subject state as well as boost Democratic turnout. In addition, some GOP candidates are uncomfortable addressing the merits of the initiative, so prefer it not be on the ballot to complicate their campaign narratives.
