Jay, your post about the fashion for Hitler mustaches in Egypt during the war prompts me to mention something that the U.S. Holocaust Museum has done. The museum, as I understand it, tries to stay away from current politics and especially from controversies. But this time, it seems to have tilted so far backwards as to topple its credibility. On the museum’s website you can now read a wishy-washy bio of Haj Amin al Husseini, the Mufti of Jerusalem during the war. Al Husseini was a great fan of Hitler and an enthusiastic supporter of the Final Solution. Yet the Holocaust Museum says merely that “some” paint him as a Nazi sympathizer. Why the timidity?
