Re: McCain’s Stem Cell Ad

I  have no particular problem with it either, though I find it a bit baffling. It fudges the difference between embryonic and non-embryonic stem cell research, making sure to speak of particulars only when they could be seen as referring to both, and offers a general commitment to increased medical research (which every presidential candidate since the creation of the NIH has made, and kept). Seems fine, though it’s odd to cast it in the mold of “change,” and frankly odd for McCain to raise the issue in general. I imagine it would cause people to wonder what McCain thinks about the ethical issues surrounding embryonic stem cell research, and most voters probably don’t know the answer.
