Jonah, I’ll take a stab at answering your post. A conservatism attentive to the economic interests of the middle class is not an innovation. Inattention to those interests is an innovative feature of contemporary conservatism in both its pro-Bush “compassionate conservative” and anti-Bush “let’s concentrate on slashing earmarks” varieties. The “reformers” are in this respect advocating a return to Reaganism.
