Jewel of Medina

In October, Mark Hemingway mentioned Jewel of Medina, the publishing of which Random House reneged upon out of fear of Islamist ire. Subsequently, as Mark mentioned, the British publishing house which took on the book was firebombed. And as Mark Steyn has shown, it is important to stand up for free speech regardless of who might take offense.

Accordingly, when Robert Spencer acquired a copy of the book which Islamists would ban, he reviewed it for Middle East Quarterly. The controversy may have made the book, but on the book’s merits, he was unimpressed. His review is here.
