Jonah, I don’t think we disagree. As I stated, Obama’s picks will have varying degrees of influence upon his policies. But I’m not persuaded that we can rest assured that those policies will reflect, say, Gates unalloyed vision of the Iraq War or Clinton’s view of relations with Iran or Venezuela.   But I do think that whatever solace conservatives take in Obama’s allegedly centrist executive branch picks will be outweighed by our alarm over Obama’s judicial branch picks. And then there’s the 3,000+ subcabinet picks Obama will make . . .   You’re right that the Left should be bewildered by Obama’s concept of “change.” But neither should conservatives find comfort in that concept.
