A Couple Questions on Daschle

1.  Given the sequence of events (see here and here), is there any reason to believe that Daschle would have paid the back taxes he owed if he hadn’t been nominated as HHS Secretary?  It seems to me plain that the answer is no—and that Daschle was indeed stringing things out to see if he could both proceed with his nomination and avoid paying the taxes.  Remember that the next time one of his former Senate colleagues or former staffers attests to his supposed integrity.

2.  For any senator, Democrat or Republican, who voices his support for Daschle’s continued nomination, how much money has that senator received, directly or indirectly, from Daschle or his super-lobbyist wife and their professional colleagues or from fundraising events either has hosted?
