Huge New Welfare Spending
According to an analysis released this morning by the Heritage Foundation, welfare spending soars under the “stimulate welfare dependency” bill Senators are presently “debating.” New means-tested welfare spending represents $264 billion of the $816 billion version of the bill. This increased welfare spending (up 20 percent in the first year) is the largest in history–on top of historically high (and growing) welfare spending under current law. It gets worse.Experience tells us these big increases in welfare spending won’t lapse after two years. “Spreading the wealth” will go on and on and on–over 10 years, this stimulus bill will add $787 billion to federal welfare spending.
