Not Carter (At Least Not in This Respect)

I wrote a cover story for NR last year drawing parallels between Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter. Most of it was about their primary campaigns, but projecting into the future, I posited that Obama’s self-righteousness and process-oriented idealism could poison his relations with Congress in a fashion reminiscent of Carter (who, Theodore White wrote, “ignored his Congress, as sinners and politicians”). Turns out that’s not going to be Obama’s problem, as I note in today’s column.
