Andrew, I’m with Jonah.  I do think that ”it ought to be controversial” to assert that “old Gaia is getting a touch crowded . . .” This assertion has led to a lot of misery over the past several decades and is flatly wrong if you mean that too many people = more human or environmental misery. That is both statistically untrue (growth in population has correlated nicely with human well-being and environmental quality along almost every single metric that I can think of) and theoretically untrue (population growth follows from human well-being and prosperity).
