A Sign of the Times

For anyone wondering how General Motors went bankrupt, their latest innovation offers a pretty good hint. It seems they think Americans want to ride around in spiffed up wheelchairs.

GM PUMA

The Wall Street Journal suggests this new vehicle, the PUMA (for Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility), is one key component of GM’s revival plans. I’m not so sure that’s going to pan out, really, but at least we have the satisfaction of knowing our tax dollars will help fund the experiment.

A gander at last year’s top sellers suggests the designers behind this latest step forward are far too creative. Americans buy big trucks and pretty generic looking cars that have room for kids in the back. The only two GM cars in the top ten were the Chevy Silverado and the Chevy Impala. Why not a few more like those?
