What Caused the Financial Crisis?


A new Goldman Sachs paper argues that the “scale and composition” of saving in emerging-market countries fuelled the pre-crisis credit boom. Former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan has endorsed a version of this argument (see here and here). Stanford economist John Taylor takes a different view, as do several contributors to this symposium. All are worth reading.
