Country Life

by Richard Brookhiser

One of my upstate neighbors, Zachary Wightman, 13, of Kerhonkson, has grown the world’s largest blueberry. It was officially weighed at 8 grams, which is like Secretariat winning the Belmont by 30 lengths; the previous record was 7 grams. Wightman’s blueberry will be on display at the Ulster County Fair from today until Sunday.

Jeanne and I have eaten a couple pints of the also-rans, and they taste good too.
