Obama Recognizes Ahmadinejad’s Legitimacy?

At least that’s how the Iranian regime is spinning Gibbs’s comments yesterday. It’s one thing to want to engage Iran. Folks like Dennis Ross once spoke how about engagement should be carefully crafted, and conducted from a position of strength. The White House, however, seems intent on playing poker with Iran with an open hand. When the Iranian regime — especially now — craves legitimacy, why would Obama offer up what Ahmadinejad wants most for absolutely nothing in return? As unbelievable as it seems, the Obama administration appears to want to approach Iran diplomatically with as little leverage as possible.
