The Washington Post on the Virginia Race

The Post devoted an editorial to blessing Democrat Creigh Deeds’s tactic of raising abortion as an issue in the race. The Post makes some fair points, as when it criticizes the campaign of Republican Bob McDonnell for saying that the issue is “divisive.” (So are elections.) But I’m having trouble picturing the editorialist with a straight face while typing these words: “[D]etermining access and limits on abortion remains to a large extent within a state’s, and a governor’s, purview. All the more so if the Supreme Court were to strike down Roe v. Wade, which could throw the entire topic of abortion into state legislatures.” If McDonnell is elected, his term would end in 2014. Does the Post really imagine that Roe might go by then?
