Over on the home page, I have an article arguing that President Obama and his allies have been less than truthful about many aspects of health-care reform even as they ceaselessly denounce the alleged lies of their opponents (which have in almost all cases been either true or arguable contentions).
My guess is that the critics of the legislation are not really Obama’s intended audience tonight. He knows that a large proportion of the country has tuned him out on health care. He will therefore try to rally his base and court the remaining persuadables. I would prefer it, of course, if Obama were to signal openness to genuine compromise with conservatives. Failing that, it would be nice if he were to stop misrepresenting health-care legislation and its critics. As I note over at the Washington Post, I’m not holding my breath.
