Including Illegal Aliens in the Social Contract

Twenty-one House Democrats are urging that illegal aliens be allowed to participate in the proposed government health-insurance exchange by buying insurance at its alleged market value, reports the Washington Times. Such ongoing health-reform efforts on behalf of illegal aliens are as much about further normalizing the status of illegals within American society as they are about spreading insurance risk (which is how the Democrats are selling their idea). How could we even think about deporting or penalizing people whom we have deliberately included within the social contract? A slightly larger group of House Democrats wants to provide legal aliens with subsidized health insurance immediately upon entry. Time was when the still extant law that immigrants not become a public charge was actually taken seriously.
