Today on Uncommon Knowledge, political scientist David Brady and economist Daniel Kessler weigh in on some of the more the baffling aspects of the young administration of Barack Obama. One of the items they discuss: the so-called stimulus package. The president permitted the Democratic leadership of the House to draft the legislation, with the entirely predictable result that they landed the country with hundreds of billions of dollars in pork spending and only a measly one hundred billion, at the very most, in genuine stimulus spending.

What could President Obama have been thinking?

DAVID BRADY: The fact is that the Democrats had not felt they were in control until 2008.  They were going to pass that bill.  They had been waiting – David Obey of Wisconsin had been waiting for 14 years to pass that bill and he finally has a vote!
