Rush and Racism

Conor Friedersdorf criticizes Rush Limbaugh because his “ire at being called a racist doesn’t prevent him from affixing the label to others with stunning frequency.” I don’t think the parallel Friedersdorf draws between the use of the label against Limbaugh and its use by Limbaugh is quite right. Most importantly, Limbaugh didn’t make up now-Justice Sotomayor’s wise-Latina comment. But it does seem as though Limbaugh makes accusations of racism too much, perhaps in the belief that the only way to get liberals to stop playing the race card is to deploy it against them.
