Whether or not gasoline sanctions would be an effective means of coercion, as the Obama administration seeks to bring Iran into compliance with its nuclear obligations, remains a key question before U.S. policymakers. Often, the positions of congressmen and diplomats appear based more on personal philosophy than facts.

How interesting it was then to read the comments of former Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Gholamreza Jalali, currently chief of Iran’s Passive Defense Organization, in the Iranian press this weekend:

The fact taken into consideration that we rely upon two natural gas refineries and should the two refineries be out of order the country could not be managed.
