From Bad to Much Worse

A couple of years ago, I wrote here and here about the Bush administration’s proposed rule on Small Business Administration set-asides for female-owned companies. While the proposed rule was roundly criticized by the usual women’s groups for not going far enough, I argued that in fact there shouldn’t be such set-asides at all. Well, yesterday the Obama administration announced its plans to expand exponentially the number of set-asides. You get what you vote for. The only silver lining is that the new program will be much more vulnerable to a legal challenge as unconstitutional.
