These Covers Don’t Run?

As a jobbing wordsmith, I’m naturally resentful of the assumption that a picture is worth a thousand words. But this one startled me, and says more than mere prose would. It’s an image from “Harmony Day” in Melbourne, Victoria.

Dunno what “Harmony Day” is – sounds like the usual multiculti claptrap. But this scene of Muslim women in burkas and hijabs made from the Australian flag is supposed to be cute. It isn’t, not to me. Try to imagine a Fourth of July parade in Dearborn, Michigan with the gals in Old Glory burkas. Instead of being cutesy, it makes visual and explicit the fundamental disconnect between western values and the Islamic body bag – and it tells you something profound and unsettling about where we’re headed.
