Congratulations to Conrad Black on his release from prison. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling, may vindication follow freedom.
Black’s troubles began just as he was coming into his own as a historian with his admiring biography of FDR. He kept writing while he was confined, but he can now enjoy the historian’s life, speaking, appearing on TV, or teaching, as much as he wishes, and his colleagues can enjoy his company.
I often disagree with Black — his last on NRO showed he needs to learn some things about the War of 1812 — but then I need to learn a lot of things myself, and Black is always a provocative read.
