Three Cheers for Michelle Rhee
If Adrian Fenty should lose the mayoral primary in the District of Columbia, and Michelle Rhee should exit the schools chancellor’s office, I’d recommend her to the Pentagon to take charge of the Iraq and Afghanistan situations. She keeps her eye on the ball, doesn’t take no for an answer, recognizes and rewards talent, and purges the ranks of mediocrities. Nobody has exact numbers, but I’ll wager that the 241 teachers she is dismissing this summer from the D.C. public schools on account of their poor classroom performance exceeds the total number of teachers being dismissed for poor performance by the country’s 25 largest school districts combined. I hope she stays at the helm in D.C. — but think what she might accomplish in Kabul and Baghdad!
