The Tea Party Express is coming to Delaware:
The Tea Party Express is pleased to announce its endorsement of Christine O’Donnell for U.S. Senate in Delaware. O’Donnell is battling liberal Republican Congressman Mike Castle for the GOP nomination.
“Christine O’Donnell has established a reputation as a strong voice for conservative constitutionalist principles consistent with the ideals of the tea party movement,” said Amy Kremer, Chairman of the Tea Party Express and one of the founding activists of the modern tea party movement.
In contrast, Mike Castle has proven himself to be one of the most liberal establishment Republicans who has repeatedly turned against conservatives and those in the tea party movement.
“We’re so excited to see the strength behind Christine O’Donnell’s campaign,” said Joe Wierzbicki, Coordinator for the Tea Party Express.
Sen. Jim DeMint (R., S.C.) may be next:
As O’Donnell criticizes Castle for supporting the bank bailouts, cap and trade and abortion rights, she appears to have caught DeMint’s attention. The two met recently and a spokesman for the senator’s political action committee said DeMint was “extremely impressed.”
“She’s a principled conservative who has been overlooked by the Washington establishment. The senator has not made an endorsement in this race but he’s watching it closely to see if O’Donnell can get within striking distance,” Matt Hoskins said.
Rasmussen’s latest shows a tightening race. Castle, who held a 23-point lead over Democrat Chris Coons in April, now leads by just eleven points, 47 percent to 36 percent. O’Donnell, for her part, is a viable contender, “up 41% of the vote to the Democrat’s 39%.” She also recently snagged the endorsement of the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life political-action committee. The primary is on September 14.
