Romer Exits

by Daniel Foster

Christina Romer, chairman of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, will resign in early September and take up her position at UC-Berkeley in time for her son to start high school in the area.

It is common for advisers in Romer’s position to have tenures shorter than the presidents they serve. But it should be noted that 1) Romer had a well-known antagonistic relationship with top Obama economic adviser Larry Summers and 2) Romer was the biggest cheerleader for the idea that the ARRA would keep unemployment below 8 percent.
