Kathryn: I finished Martin Amis’s Experience, his memoir of his relationship with his father Kingsley. The organization is perverse, but there are many fine vignettes of the Amis, as well as one unique event, well described.

Martin Amis was being very rude (as he himself acknowledges) to Salman Rushdie at a dinner party. An awkward pause ensued. Then the event:

“Even Christopher Hitchens was silent.”
