Cantor: ‘Zero Tolerance’ for Ethics Violations

by Robert Costa

Rep. Eric Cantor (R., Va.), the GOP whip, tells National Review Online that House Republicans will push for a “zero-tolerance” ethics policy “as Republicans emerge as a new, governing majority.”

“This latest escapade,” Cantor says, commenting on Rep. Charlie Rangel’s ethics troubles, “is just indicative of the fact that [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi has been unable, or unwilling, to deliver on her promise to drain the swamp, to clean up this place.”

“As Republicans emerge as a new, governing majority,” Cantor says that “it is incumbent upon us to institute a zero-tolerance policy” to show that Republicans “understand the reasons for our being fired in 2006 and in 2008.”

“We’ve learned our lesson,” Cantor says. “It it time for us to live up to the people’s expectations. We cannot tolerate any ethics violations.”
