Watch Rob Portman in Ohio

by Peter Kirsanow

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of moderating a forum for GOP candidates running for statewide offices in Ohio. Particularly impressive was Rob Portman, who’s running for the senate seat being vacated by George Voinovich.

Before stints as U.S. trade representative and as director of  the Office of Management and Budget under George W. Bush, Portman served six terms as a congressman from the Cincinnati area. Current polls give him anywhere from a six- to an eight-point lead over Democrat Lee Fisher, Ohio’s present lieutenant governor under Ted Strickland.

Should he win in November, expect Portman to quickly emerge as one of  the GOP’s go-to senators on all matters fiscal and economic.  Someone to keep an eye on.
